Katie Brenny, First Tee of Metropolitan New York

Katie Brenny is Senior Director of Player Development for The First Tee of Metropolitan New York, where she has successfully implemented organization wide competitive golf strategies and leads the Chapter's programs in Essex County, New Jersey.  This model youth initiative based at Newark's Weequahic Golf Course is comprised of more than 500 students with over 90 percent being from minority backgrounds and 50 percent female. Katie also serves as coach of four PGA Junior League teams, as well as multiple Drive, Chip and Putt national qualifiers at this inner-city public venue.

Prior to joining The First Tee, Katie challenged discrimination based on her sexual orientation at the University of Minnesota where she had been hired to serve as the associate women's head golf coach. After an arduous four year legal battle, the judge ruled decisively in her favor. This landmark case strengthened her resolve to be an advocate for inclusiveness and diversity in college and junior athletics.

As former standout high school player Katie earned a full scholarship to Wake Forest University. Katie has a passion for teaching juniors to achieve at the highest level and to make the game of golf more welcoming to people from all backgrounds.
