TRACKING TRENDS TO AID THE INDUSTRY

At the initial conference in 2000, GOLF 20/20 stated that the overabundance of courses built in relation to the number of rounds played would ultimately correct itself. In 2003, 20/20’s hypothesis was proven, as the number of courses constructed was the lowest in 16 years.

Rounds decreased 1.5 percent, but the decrease was half that of the previous year. Interest essentially remained steady, and participation increased among all 3 golfer groups: occasional golfers (who play 1-7 rounds per year), core golfers (8-24 rounds per year) and avid golfers (25 or more rounds per year).
