The First Tee National School Program was inaugurated in 2003 by the World Golf Foundation as an initiative of GOLF 20/20. In order to access resources needed to expand the program, in May of 2004 the National School Program became an initiative of The First Tee.
During the 2003-2004 school year, the National School Program was piloted in 130 elementary schools in 8 communities, reaching more than 50,000 children. The initial feedback from physical educators, principals, parents and the students themselves has been very positive. The First Tee National School Program has now reached more than 400,000 students in over 900 elementary schools across the country.
The National School Program is a safe, fun and effective way to introduce school children to the basics in golf skills, etiquette and play. It trains physical educators to introduce the basics in golf skills to children in their yearly program. The curriculum is based on national physical education standards and emphasizes character-education through an introduction to The First Tee’s Nine Core Values.
